Sometimes when using the ivms-4500 app remotely with HI-DDNS I get an error that the device is not registered in the domain.I thought Id try out the new HIK-Connect service to see if it improved the speed and reliability of remote connection to my DVR.Another main reason is that it appears that one can access their device both locally and remotely using the hik-connect domain as opposed to having to setup 2 devices (one local and one remote) in ivms-4500.
Please correct me if I am wrong about that (Normally if I am connected to wifi I cannot access my device remotely but when I briefly tried with hik-connect, I could so I assumed that it was automatically using the local IP somehow). To use hik-connect, I first enabled platform access on my DVR and set the custom address to dev.hik-connect.com. This also automatically disabled the DDNS setting on my DVR. Next I registered for an hik-connect account and successfully added my device. I tried out the HIK-connect app but its really terrible compared to ivms (at least at this point in time). Just to name a few things I personally didnt like about it cannot swipe between cameras, picture does not take up all the space in 4:3 ratio (yes, even though it would look squished), complicated to get around menus (whats wrong with having live view and playback tabs like in ivms) etc. Anyway, I went back to the very recently updated ivms-4500 app. Now it appears that one can use hik-connect in 2 different ways. One way is logging into hik-connect under the hik-connect tab and the other is manually adding the device under devices. The names of each camera are not pulled from the DVR (they just appear as camera1DSxxxxxxxx etc.) which is very confusing, you cannot configure or remote control the device and worst of all you cannot specify the user (like a guest user rather than admin). I assume using hik-connect through the devices tab would solve this - problem is, when I try to add my DVR under devices through hik-connect domain; I just get a message no online device added even though my DVR shows as being online in hik-connect device management. I already emailed HIK a long while back and no new firmware is being released for my device. They said it is already compatible with HIK-CONNECT (I assume through platform access option like I did). Im not 100 sure but Im pretty sure those are all new changes just for the latest version (I dont remember seeing them in the 2nd to last update). If its still not working then thats pretty shameful, especially for new customers that can not register for HI-DDNS. There is no new firmware for my device and HIK dont seem too bothered about it.
